Governance

Our aim is to provide our members with the necessary support to deliver the highest standard of care in echocardiography. We focus on providing accreditation and education and working with the echo community to meet their needs.

The British Society of Echocardiography is an incorporated charity governed by its Memorandum and Articles. It is governed by a President and Board of Trustees. The Trustees are also the Company Directors.

The work of the Society is directed and run by the Council and through sub-committees covering its key areas of focus, namely accreditation, departmental accreditation and standards, education and communications. There is also a standing committee comprising the Honorary Officers, with monthly communication by teleconference.

The Board and its committees are supported by the team in the office. The office team is led by an Executive Director whose remit is to develop and grow the Society’s services for members’ benefit, as well as provide strong leadership for the office team. The committees and Executive Director have delegated authority to carry out day to day work within policies approved by the Board.

Membership of the Society is open to everyone associated with echocardiography including cardiac physiologists, cardiologists, clinical scientists, radiologists, anaesthetists, veterinarians, medical physicists, radiographers, and managerial, sales and technical staff. Members are required to subscribe to the Society's Rules and Code of Professional Conduct.
