The British Society of Echocardiography (BSE)’s new International Representatives will represent the issues that matter to our international community as well as offering a source of support, encouragement and assistance to those who may be navigating pathways to UK practice, undertaking accreditation or who wish to exchange knowledge. Ms Mathuri Partheban, Specialist Cardiac Physiologist and Cardiac Clinical Scientist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, shares what she hopes to bring to the role.
I am a Specialist Cardiac Physiologist and Cardiac Clinical Scientist within Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
My own pathway into UK practice has been shaped by a combination of international training, postgraduate academic development and structured clinical progression within the NHS. Alongside my clinical role, I have been actively involved in research, audit and service development, with a growing interest in education, mentorship and leadership within echocardiography. I am honoured to serve as an International Representative for the BSE.
Echocardiography is more than a diagnostic modality; it is a universal language of cardiovascular care that connects clinicians and scientists across borders.
While advances in imaging technology and evolving clinical standards continue to strengthen our practice, access to structured education, accreditation and professional development opportunities varies globally. The BSE has long been recognised for its leadership in setting high standards, promoting quality assurance and supporting career progression, and I am keen to contribute to strengthening international engagement and collaboration.
I am particularly passionate about supporting engaged professionals and fostering meaningful knowledge exchange between UK practice and the wider international echocardiography community.
I am also very happy to support colleagues who are seeking guidance with their BSE accreditation journey or navigating pathways towards UK professional registration. Mentorship and shared experience can make a significant difference, and I welcome conversations from anyone looking for advice, direction or encouragement.
I look forward to listening, learning and contributing to initiatives that promote inclusivity, educational equity and global collaboration. By strengthening international engagement, we can collectively advance standards, inspire innovation and ultimately improve patient care worldwide.
