#MyBSEcho2020

I’m looking forward to BSEcho 2020 this year with the planned mix of live and pre-recorded sessions.  The additional tracks can be accessed at any time so gives the flexibility for our busy schedules.

In ‘echo in physiological adaptation’, the ‘primate heart project’ will be interesting to hear and I always find something to help my clinical practice when it comes to hypertensive cardiac adaptation.

I’m hoping for a discussion around how to identify changes which are normal adaptive responses and which are suggestive of pathology in pregnancy and high level/competitive sport.  Both are common diagnostic conundrums in our busy district general hospital and I’ll be taking note to bring back to our Echo MDT.  There is often discussion around use of GLS and 3D volumes, particularly for RV assessment and how to use exercise (if appropriate) to tease out the subtle markers.

Talk Speaker
Welcome
BSE right heart guideline Dan Knight

Scientist/physiologist-led heart failure clinics Maria Paton
Differentials of the dilated right heart Madalina Garbi
3D tricuspid valve assessment Luigi Badano
Question and answer session

Often when we are asked to make these calls we have no previous imaging for comparison and it is often at a time of high value decision making.  As a multi-modality imager I am often keen to assess from another ‘angle’ but there is no substitute for high quality echo in terms of rapid decision making and value based health care.

I work in one of most ‘altitude challenged’ parts of the UK so altitude adaptation is not something we see but I’m very interested in the cardiovascular changes of participants of the ultra-marathons at altitude and the possible link between longevity and altitude.

I hope you'll join me in watching!
