Waheed has 25 years of echocardiography experience with special interest in 3D TTE and DSE,TOE. He is a postgraduate with teaching and research interest and takes great pride in his work. Over the past few years he has supported the BSE Education committee and jointly appointed as Lead role for DLM and eLearning program. Waheed is also the East Midlands lead representative in Echocardiography.

Dan is a Consultant Cardiologist (Echo / CMR) based in Bath and is the current BSE co-chair for Education. He is a co-author of the Oxford handbook of Echocardiography and has specialist interests in sports cardiology and pulmonary hypertension.

Gemma is the lead sonographer for the Inherited Cardiac Conditions clinic at the Leeds Teaching. She has a specialist interest in stress echo and its uses in this cohort of patients.

Radwa is a consultant cardiologist and specialises in adult congenital heart disease with a sub-specialty interest in congenital catheter interventions.

Jose is one of the Deputy Principal Cardiac Physiologists in Barts Heart Centre and the cardiology diagnostic lead in University College London Hospitals. Jose obtained his full BSE accreditation in 2012 and became a BSE adult TTE assessor from 2015. His research interest is in the field of cardio oncology.

Dr Daniel Chen gained his medical degree at the University of Newcastle, Australia before completing his cardiology training at the Prince of Wales and St George Hospitals in Sydney, Australia. He is currently a fellow in advanced cardiac imaging and cardio oncology at the Barts Heart Centre, University College of London Hospital, and Hatter Cardiovascular Institute with a keen research interest in immunotherapy-related cardiotoxicities.

Claire is a clinician echocardiographer working in general critical care in Oxford. She set up the Oxford Critical Care Echo fellowship in 2009 which currently has 13 consultant alumni at ACCE level. She has been involved with the BSE since 2007 helping to drive the development of satellite echo services in line with the BSE echo quality framework. Claire has been Chair of Accreditation for three years and will take up the reins as President of the BSE this year.

Dr Stephanie Curtis is a Consultant Cardiologist in ACHD at University Hospitals Bristol. She trained in Edinburgh, London, and Bristol. Her interests are obstetric cardiology, cardiomyopathies and aortopathies. She runs the South West Adult Congenital Heart Disease Regional Training Programme for Cardiologists and the Bristol ACHD Echo course.

Laura Dobson is a Consultant Cardiologist at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester, with a special interest in echo and valvular heart disease. Prior to this, she completed her training in the Yorkshire Deanery, an Advanced Imaging Fellowship in Melbourne and a MD investigating the use of CMR in patients with AS.

Rebecca is a Consultant Cardiologist at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. Her sub-specialty interests are echocardiography and cardio-oncology. She is particularly interested in the field of cardiac toxicity and is leading the development of a new regional cardio-oncology service.

Aimee is a BSE accredited Cardiac Physiologist who in recent years, in addition to clinical work, turned her hand to research. She has recently completed her PhD and been appointed as a Lecturer in Cardiovascular and Exercise Physiology at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Richard is a Consultant in Critical Care at King's College Hospital. He undertook a post-CCT fellowship in peri-operative and critical care echocardiography at the Royal Brompton Hospital and holds the EACVI accreditations in TTE and TOE. He is a member of the British Society of Echocardiography's Education Committee where he is lead for training in level 1 echo.

STP graduate, OSFA assessor, mentor/supervisor to current & former Cardiac Science STPs, Healthcare Science apprenticeship end-point assessor. BSE subcommittee member (distance and e-learning). Physiologist, Clinical Scientist, researcher and clinical academic. Focused echo in emergency life support (FEEL) instructor.

Madalina is a Consultant Cardiologist with expertise in echocardiography and heart valve disease at the Royal Papworth Hospital and the NICE Topic Adviser on heart valve disease. Dr Garbi was twice elected member of the EACVI Board and is currently an ex-officio member of the Scientific Papers Committee.

Kate is a consultant cardiologist (echo and heart failure) based in Leeds. She has a special interest in the integrated management of heart failure across primary and secondary care, managing coexisting valve disease and heart failure and looking after women with cardiac disease during pregnancy.

Dr Arjun K Ghosh MBBS, MSc, PhD, FHEA, FACC, FESC, FRCP is the first Consultant Cardiologist in the UK to be appointed specifically in Cardio-Oncology and helped establish Cardio-Oncology services at Barts Heart Centre and UCLH and is clinical lead for the UCLH service.

John is a NIHR Post-Doctoral Research Fellow with a specialist interest in the optimisation of pacemaker therapy to improve cardiac function, exercise capacity, quality of life and outcomes for patients with heart failure, and prevention of heart failure in patients with pacemakers implanted for bradycardia.

Dr Harkness is a Consultant Cardiologist, specialises in imaging. He wrote the EchoCalc app for Android in 2011 and is working on a new version for both platforms. This work has inspired his interest in cardiac dimensions and function, resulting in the recent papers on reference intervals and diastolic dysfunction.

Lindsey is a Consultant in Paediatric and Fetal Cardiology at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow. Dr Hunter has published in various peer review journals, and has contributed to leading textbooks in paediatric and fetal echocardiography.

Tom is a Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Cardiac Imaging at the Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust. He is the current Vice President of the British Society of Echocardiography and a visiting Professor at the University of Chester. Tom has a keen interest in team working and inter-professional communication.

Dr. Kachulis completed her training in anesthesiology and her cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center. After her training she joined the faculty of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia division at Columbia where she became an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and served as Director of Thoracic Anesthesia. She recently joined the Weill Cornell faculty, division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia.

Dr MacNab leads the Wythenshawe echo department, serves on the BSE council and leads Stress Accreditation for the BSE. Her special interests are stress echocardiography and 3D echo in mitral valve repair and mitraclip. Anita has lectured at many national and international conferences and runs many stress and TOE courses.

Dr. Aneil Malhotra PhD, MB, BChir, MA (Cantab), MRCP (UK), MSc (Medical Leadership). Aneil is the Presidential Fellow/ Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester and honorary consultant cardiologist in inherited cardiac conditions and sports cardiology at Wythenshawe and Manchester Royal Infirmary Hospitals. He is the cardiologist for a number of professional football, cricket and rugby clubs and British Cycling.

Dr Masani is a Cardiologist with a special interest in echocardiography. He is the previous Chair of the BSE Education Committee and past President of the BSE. Nav is the Founder-Director of the Cardiff Echocardiography course and Bristol Adult Congenital Heart Disease Echocardiography course. He is a faculty member of the SUNEcho course, Cape Town.

Sharon is an Intensivist and Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. While engaged in clinical care across of spectrum of cardiovascular and pulmonary disease, her research interests include perioperative transesophageal echocardiography, advanced heart failure therapies, and heart transplantation.

Professor Monaghan is a past President and Founder member of the British Society of Echocardiography. He has served on several EACVI and ASE Councils and Committees. Mark has published 3 textbooks on Echo and several hundred manuscripts. He has also delivered many National and International Lectures.

Peter is a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine in Galway University Hospitals, Ireland. He graduated with an honours degree from NUI Galway in 2008. Following 2 years of core medical training he commenced a dual anaesthesia/ICM scheme which he completed in 2018. He then spent 18 months in the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford where he achieved BSE ACCE accreditation during his critical care echocardiography fellowship. He is a member of the BSE ACCE subcommittee and the Irish Intensive Care Core Training Echocardiography & Ultrasound Committee.

Dr Angus Nightingale is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Bristol Heart Institute and Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol. He leads clinical teams in heart failure and hypertension; aiming to put into practice the insights from research to improve the quality and length of life of his patients.

Segun is a Specialty Trainee in Intensive Care Medicine working in London. His interests include critical care ultrasound, wellbeing among medical practitioners, and the use of social media in medical education. He also runs a wedding cake and confectionery company with his wife, Fen, where his main role seems to be eating leftover desserts.

Maria is a cardiac scientist undertaking a NIHR fellowship at the University of Leeds, investigating the optimal management of patients with heart failure and cardiac devices through tailored therapy riven by advanced imaging assessment. She leads the heart Failure and cardiac device service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and is co-chair for the Research and Audit Committee of the British Society of Echocardiography.

Dr Mahesh Prabhu is a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive care and Cardiothoracic ICU Director. He is an echo enthusiast and a member of the ACTACC TOE Sub-committee, EACTA TOE Committee, EACTA VAD & Transplant Committee and BSE Accreditation committee. He is the TOE Lead for ACTACC/BSE TOE accreditation. He serves on the editorial board of Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia. His interests include Transoesophageal Echocardiography, Thoracic organ transplantation and teaching.

Emma is a Clinical Scientist with more than 25 years experience and a PhD. She is currently working in Swansea University doing clinical research, teaching and leading out-of-hospital echo clinics. Emma is passionate about echo and education and curious about everything.

Gui obtained a degree in clinical physiology at ESALD (Portugal) in 2011. Since then he has been working in the field of echocardiography, having worked in the Azores Islands, Paris and recently the UK, since 2015. Obtained full BSE TTE and EACVI CHD accreditation and recently took part of the BSE board of practical exam assessors.

Shaun is a consultant clinical scientist with a specialist clinical and research interest in stress echocardiography in valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathies and the athletes heart. He is the lead OSFA station writer for the echo STP examination process, current co-chair of the BSE education committee and elected member of BSE council. Shaun is a regular speaker at regional and national meetings, the lead author of the new BSE Minimum Dataset and co-lead author of the new BSE Mitral Valve guideline.

Harpreet has been an Echocardiographer for eight years now and observing progression in juniors learning echo is the most rewarding part of her job. Her sub-speciality is congenital heart disease, and so being part of the team for their new CHD accreditation is an honour. She is also involved with adult TTE practical exams as an experienced station three examiner and is part of the Accreditation committee.

Dr Shah is a Consultant Cardiologist at Southampton General Hospital and has subspecialty interests in echocardiography and heart valve disease. Benoy is a former BSE Education Committee member, a current BSE Stress Echo Accreditation Committee and an EACVI TOE Certification Committee member. Dr Shah is the current President of the British Heart Valve Society.

Professor Simpson has particular interests in 3D echo, TOE and fetal echo. He has published over 200 papers and textbooks on congenital heart disease. He was lead author on European / North American guidelines on 3D congenital echocardiography. Professor Simpson is President of the British Congenital Cardiac Association.

Anjana is a Consultant Cardiologist and head of echo at QAH, a busy DHG performing over 16,000 echos per year. She has trained a number of physiologists in TOE and stress echo and established physiologist led services for each. Physiologist led contrast and valve clinics are also established as routine. Anjana is clinical lead for pulmonary hypertension servies at QAH running monthly clinics in conjunction with Hammersmith hospital PH team.

Elliot is a HCPC registered clinical scientist. He graduated from the Scientist Training Programme in 2016, based at Papworth Hospital and Newcastle University. Elliot is now lead echocardiographer at St George’s Hospital, Tooting, South London and obtained BSE accreditation in May 2019, and since then has been developing a ‘scientist-led TOE service’ at St George’s Hospital.

Rick Steeds is a Consultant Cardiologist at University Hospitals in Birmingham, specialising in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of valvular heart disease and in the management of cardiomyopathy, including rare and metabolic diseases. He is Clinical Lead for the Valve Surveillance clinic, caring for patients with single and multiple heart valve diseases in the left heart – aortic and mitral – and right heart – tricuspid and pulmonary. His practice incorporates out-patient and in-patient management, using advanced echocardiography, cardio-pulmonary exercise stress testing and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging in management of single and complex valve diseases. He is Clinical Cardiology Lead for cardiovascular imaging, incorporating echocardiography and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging. He is the immediate past President of the British Society of Echocardiography. He is an Honorary Reader at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, University of Birmingham, has published more than 200 peer-reviewed research articles, and is a Strategic Associate Editor for Echo, Research and Practice. With funding from the BHF and commercial sources, he is currently using multiparametric CMR and echocardiography to investigate the role of myocardial infiltration in valvular heart disease and in cardiomyopathy related to rare diseases.

Mike is a Reader within the Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences. His research focuses on the integration of physiological systems during acute and chronic adaptation to exercise and hypoxia. These research interests are explored by utilising ultrasonography in the assessment of cardiac and cerebrovascular physiology.

Martin is currently Vice-President elect for the BSE after serving on the Education Committee as both Chair and Vice Chair and is a current council member. He is a Consultant Cardiac Physiologist specialising in cardiac imaging and has a honorary professor role at Manchester Metropolitan University. He continues to maintain active research output, research supervision and academic duties with respect to cardiac science training in the U.K. Martin is a regular speaker at conferences in the UK and internationally.

Professor Dr. Swaminathan is a tenured professor of anesthesiology and the Vice-Chair for Faculty Development at Duke University, USA. His research interests include perioperative echocardiography and acute kidney injury. He most recently served the American Society of Echocardiography as its 30th president from 2019 to 2020.

Kelly is a clinical scientist in cardiology with 15 years experience in echocardiography. She is currently the lead scientist for valve disease at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Kelly has had unique experience in critical care medicine having been employed as lead scientist for seven years. She holds BSE TTE and TOE accreditation and is the communications chair for the BSE. Her research interests surround valve disease and ECMO.

Dr Williams took up the post of Consultant Cardiologist in Echocardiography at Royal Papworth Hospital in 2013. Her clinical interests include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, inherited cardiac diseases, cardiac sarcoidosis, neuromuscular conditions, and echocardiography in ACHD. She is a member of the BSE Communications Committee.

James is a clinical scientist with an interest in both echocardiography and research working at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

Adrian has been a consultant in anaesthesia & intensive care since 2015 and is a currently a consultant at King’s College Hospital, London. He is a member of the ICS FUSIC committee and is pursuing a PhD in Vrije University Brussels on fluid stewardship and management in the critical care setting.

Abbas is based at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. His interests include echocardiography, CMR, inherited cardiac conditions, heart muscle diseases, and sports cardiology. He has co-authored BSE protocols on ARVC, echocardiography in athletes, and right heart assessment, and is lead author on the forthcoming tricuspid and pulmonary valve guideline.
