Dr Daniel Chen gained his medical degree at the University of Newcastle, Australia before completing his cardiology training at the Prince of Wales and St George Hospitals in Sydney, Australia. He is currently a fellow in advanced cardiac imaging and cardio oncology at the Barts Heart Centre, University College of London Hospital, and Hatter Cardiovascular Institute with a keen research interest in immunotherapy-related cardiotoxicities.

Dr Claire Colebourn

Claire is a clinician echocardiographer working in general critical care in Oxford. She set up the Oxford Critical Care Echo fellowship in 2009 which currently has 13 consultant alumni at ACCE level. She has been involved with the BSE since 2007 helping to drive the development of satellite echo services in line with the BSE echo quality framework. Claire has been Chair of Accreditation for three years and will take up the reins as President of the BSE this year.

Her interests are obstetric cardiology, cardiomyopathies and aortopathies. She runs the South West Adult Congenital Heart Disease Regional Training Programme for Cardiologists and the Bristol ACHD Echo course.

Dr Allan Harkness

Dr Harkness is a Consultant Cardiologist, specialises in imaging. He wrote the EchoCalc app for Android in 2011 and is working on a new version for both platforms. This work has inspired his interest in cardiac dimensions and function, resulting in the recent papers on reference intervals and diastolic dysfunction.

He is the cardiologist for a number of professional football, cricket and rugby clubs and British Cycling.

Her sub-speciality is congenital heart disease, and so being part of the team for their new CHD accreditation is an honour. She is also involved with adult TTE practical exams as an experienced station three examiner and is part of the Accreditation committee.

Dr Shah is the current President of the British Heart Valve Society.

Professor John Simpson

Anjana is a Consultant Cardiologist and head of echo at QAH, a busy DHG performing over 16,000 echos per year. Anjana is clinical lead for pulmonary hypertension servies at QAH running monthly clinics in conjunction with Hammersmith hospital PH team.

Dr Rick Steeds

Rick Steeds is a Consultant Cardiologist at University Hospitals in Birmingham, specialising in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of valvular heart disease and in the management of cardiomyopathy, including rare and metabolic diseases. He is Clinical Lead for the Valve Surveillance clinic, caring for patients with single and multiple heart valve diseases in the left heart – aortic and mitral – and right heart – tricuspid and pulmonary. His practice incorporates out-patient and in-patient management, using advanced echocardiography, cardio-pulmonary exercise stress testing and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging in management of single and complex valve diseases. He is Clinical Cardiology Lead for cardiovascular imaging, incorporating echocardiography and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging. He is the immediate past President of the British Society of Echocardiography. He is an Honorary Reader at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, University of Birmingham, has published more than 200 peer-reviewed research articles, and is a Strategic Associate Editor for Echo, Research and Practice. With funding from the BHF and commercial sources, he is currently using multiparametric CMR and echocardiography to investigate the role of myocardial infiltration in valvular heart disease and in cardiomyopathy related to rare diseases.

Dr Mike Stembridge

Mike is a Reader within the Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences. His research focuses on the integration of physiological systems during acute and chronic adaptation to exercise and hypoxia. These research interests are explored by utilising ultrasonography in the assessment of cardiac and cerebrovascular physiology.

Professor Martin Stout

Martin is currently Vice-President elect for the BSE after serving on the Education Committee as both Chair and Vice Chair and is a current council member. He is a Consultant Cardiac Physiologist specialising in cardiac imaging and has a honorary professor role at Manchester Metropolitan University. He continues to maintain active research output, research supervision and academic duties with respect to cardiac science training in the U.K. Martin is a regular speaker at conferences in the UK and internationally.

Professor Madhav Swaminathan

Professor Dr. Swaminathan is a tenured professor of anesthesiology and the Vice-Chair for Faculty Development at Duke University, USA. His research interests include perioperative echocardiography and acute kidney injury. He most recently served the American Society of Echocardiography as its 30th president from 2019 to 2020.

Ms Kelly Victor

Kelly is a clinical scientist in cardiology with 15 years experience in echocardiography. She is currently the lead scientist for valve disease at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Kelly has had unique experience in critical care medicine having been employed as lead scientist for seven years. She holds BSE TTE and TOE accreditation and is the communications chair for the BSE. Her research interests surround valve disease and ECMO.

Dr Lynne Williams

Dr Williams took up the post of Consultant Cardiologist in Echocardiography at Royal Papworth Hospital in 2013. Her clinical interests include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, inherited cardiac diseases, cardiac sarcoidosis, neuromuscular conditions, and echocardiography in ACHD. She is a member of the BSE Communications Committee.
