#MyBSEFellowship | Reinette Hampson

With Fellowship applications now open for 2021, Ms Reinette Hampson FBSE, Senior Chief Cardiac Physiologist at London North West University Hospital NHS Trust lets us know why anyone can apply to become a Fellow.

When you look at the list of fellows and honorary fellows of the British Society of Echocardiography you are struck by what an impressive cohort of members it consists of: professors, doctors, former presidents and vice presidents! My initial thought was that I was clearly punching above my weight even considering to apply.

I started to look at the criteria for applying and as I read, I started to feel more confident about applying. I felt that I could confidently demonstrate the contribution that I have made to the field of stress echocardiography, so  with enthusiastic support from colleagues at work and from within the Society, I submitted my application.

I am not a professor, doctor or former vice president. I am a physiologist, probably just like you, who learnt echocardiography 15 years ago, joined the Society, had opportunities to learn and be good at something, and who started to give back by doing research, teaching, being a leader and volunteering.

I feel very honoured to have joined the ranks of the current fellows and honorary fellows in 2020, and I look forward to seeing the ranks swell with more sonographers, physiologists and medical scientists.

I hope to be an ambassador for the Society and to continue to contribute to promoting stress echocardiography through the amazing work our Society is doing.
