New echo quality accreditation launched

The British Society of Echocardiography is pleased to launch the newest standard for echocardiography departments, echo quality accreditation (EQA).

EQA is based around the four areas of the Echo Quality Framework (EQF):

  • Echo quality
  • Reproducibility and consistency
  • Education and training
  • Customer and staff satisfaction

By participating in echo quality accreditation, echo departments can demonstrate that robust QA processes are in place to ensure continual service improvement.

Applications are welcome from all echo departments, regardless of size, and including non-BSE accredited departments. This will allow those who are not quite ready for full departmental accreditation to evidence their high standards in looking after their staff and patients.

Dr Tom Ingram, Chair of the Clinical Standards Committee said 'I am delighted that EQA will offer an opportunity to departments to work within a robust framework that gives a full assessment of their standards. I hope that this new level of accreditation will encourage more departments to undergo the assessment process, which is so ably managed by my colleagues on the Departmental Accreditation Committee, Ms Sarah Ritzmann and Ms Steph Baker.'

EQA will also be a key component of the Departmental Accreditation Committee's new digital stream, with the opportunity for virtual site visits and streamlined assessments allowing departments from far and wide to take advantage of this opportunity.
