One of the highlights of the BSE annual conference is the research in echocardiography session. It is a great opportunity to understand the research process from concept and study design to applying for funding and carving a career as a clinical academic. The presentations provide the ground work for those new to the field and helpful ideas, concepts and a fresh perspective for those with established research backgrounds. This interactive session encourages dynamic audience participation in a convivial atmosphere. The session provides a unique opportunity to help drive forward echocardiography-based research in the United Kingdom. One of the major advantages is the ability to network with peers from different centres. Over the years, I have developed several very fruitful research collaborations from contacts made within this forum.

I thoroughly recommend watching the virtual session this year, both for those who want to get involved in research and experienced investigators. I hope you gain as much from the session as I have in previous years.
