Accreditation and reaccreditation

The COVID-19 pandemic is already putting unprecedented strain on echo services and the British Society of Echocardiography understands the effect this will have on logbook collection. We also recognise that some members due to re-accredit in June have missed the opportunity to collect their final points due to the cancellation of key educational events.

To help support candidates and members at this stressful time, the Society has established the following policies to cover logbook submissions and re-accreditation.

  • All log-books and re-accreditations will be given 12 months automatic extension and up to 10 points reduction in their reaccreditation BSE points requirements for the five year cycle.

  • We also recognise that this is a difficult time for departments to change their normal reference values: we will therefore extend the point of changeover by six months from October 2020 to March 2021.
If anyone requires an extension beyond the above please apply through the normal extension process.
For the avoidance of doubt, candidates who were to sit the practical assessment on Sunday 22 March 2020 will not be given an automatic extension.
Education events

Our North East regional meeting scheduled for Monday 16 March 2020 has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date once more information is available about the virus outbreak.

Advanced imaging 2020 schedules for Friday 17 April 2020 has been cancelled. Please refer to the Royal Society of Medicine for more information.

Our other events are currently expected to run as scheduled, but we continue to monitor and assess the situation. Notice of any cancellations will be posted on our website and registered delegates will be notified.

If the Society is forced to cancel events, registered delegates will receive a full refund of the fees paid. However, the Society is not responsible for any travel or any other costs that may have been incurred.

The same rules will apply to delegates unable to attend an event – upon presentation of documentary evidence – because of the coronavirus outbreak, where someone is unable to attend due to travel restrictions imposed by their governments and/or the UK government.

Following official advice, delegates travelling from affected areas in the 14 days before an event will not be allowed access to venue and all delegates will be asked to complete a travel declaration form.

If we have concerns that someone poses a risk to the health of others, we reserve the right to turn them away, but will reimburse their fees.

Practical assessments and exams

If the Society is forced to cancel practical assessments or examinations, registered candidates will receive a full credit of the fees paid for the next available assessment/exam and their validity period will be extended accordingly. The Society is not responsible for any travel or any other costs that may have been incurred.

The same rules will apply to candidates unable to sit an exam or attend an assessment – upon presentation of documentary evidence – because of the coronavirus outbreak, where someone is unable to attend due to travel restrictions imposed by their governments and/or the UK government.

Following official advice, candidates travelling from affected areas in the 14 days before the exam will not be allowed access to the exam centre. All candidates will be asked to complete a travel declaration form.

If we have concerns that someone poses a risk to the health of others, we reserve the right to turn them away, but will reimburse their fees and extend their validity period if required.
