Echo Research and Practice

Echo Research and Practice is the official open-access journal of the British Society of Echocardiography. It is published by Springer Nature. The journal is now accepting submissions and the next edition will be published Spring 2022.

Members of the BSE benefit from a 15% discount on standard article-processing charges (APC’s). They are also entitled to apply for a grant to cover the cost of the APC’s. Grants will be awarded based on scientific merit and evaluated by the Editors in Chief and Associate Editors. Please note, case reports will not be eligible for an APC grant.

To request an application form, please contact [email protected] upon submission of your article. Authors who apply for a grant will be informed of the decision regarding an award at the same time as the manuscript is accepted for publication.

About the journal

The journal publishes quality research, reviews, videos, educational materials and guidelines across all echocardiography modalities and disciplines. Echo Research and Practice aims to be the premier international journal for physicians, sonographers, nurses and other allied health professionals practising echocardiography and other cardiac imaging modalities. About the Editors in Chief

Professor Petros Nihoyannopoulos

Editor in Chief

Professor Petros Nihoyannopoulos is Professor of Cardiology at Imperial College London and Academic Head of the Echocardiography Department at Hammersmith Hospital. He is an international key opinion leader on echocardiography and has been involved in the developments of echocardiography worldwide since the mid 80’s.

Professor Nihoyannopoulos is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, Royal College of Physicians, European Society of Cardiology. He served as President of the British Society of Echocardiography (2001-2003) and President of the European Association of Echocardiography of the ESC (2006-2008). He has extensive experience of senior editorial positions in major international journals. He instigated the launch of the European Journal of Echocardiography (EJE) (now EHJCVI) and served as its Deputy Editor since the launch of the journal. Professor Nihoyannopoulos has also been involved on several editorial Boards positions on major international Journals, including JACC, EHJ, EHJCVI, Heart, JACCimaging, and JASE. 

Professor Mark Monaghan

Deputy Editor in Chief

Professor Mark Monaghan is Director of Non-Invasive Cardiology at King’s College Hospital, London, UK.  He is a past President and current Council Member of the British Society of Echocardiography.  He has received a lifetime achievement award from the BSE and the McKenzie Medal (2021) from the British Cardiovascular Society.  He is a Fellow of the BSE, Royal College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology.

Professor Monaghan is on the Editorial Board of several Cardiac Imaging Journals, has published extensively in peer reviewed Journals and is the Author, Editor and contributor to multiple books dedicated to Cardiac Imaging.
